I never considered myself a yoga person. I liked Pilates. I enjoyed the quick pace, the burn and the dance undertone to it. I would walk past the yoga classes or shake my head at my friends that enjoy it. My perspective changed one day with the right teacher and then I was hooked.
By day, I'm a pediatric occupational therapist. By night, I'm a wife of six years and a mom of a spirited 1 year old. I have worked in a private setting for five years and recently moved to a private therapeutic day school to challenge myself. I have primarily worked with the Sensory Integrative population and found that yoga could be an excellent tool for regulating nervous systems as well as building strength, coordination and body awareness {to name a few}. In 2010, I won a a partial scholarship to attend a 5 day YogaKids course in Boston, MA. From that point, I decided to continue my certification with YogaKids by completing a self-paced study and a 7 day certification course in beautiful Estes Park, CO. YogaKids provided me with the tools to teach any child or teen but my passion is working with children with special needs. Since becoming a CYKT {Certified YogaKids Teacher} in 2011, my mission has been to adapt yoga so that all children can enjoy it. Increased awareness has made it a desired skill within the past few years and I hope to be able to provide that with you either through research or private sessions. In regards to my teaching experience, I have had the pleasure of teaching private sessions, groups and camps within the clinic, weekly classes at a school for adults with Down Syndrome and privately to families. ~Jamie |
